Seriously, I don't mind that the dragons were humanoid, that was to be expected, considering the TV-show-budget. But they could've... ah, whatever.
I agree. I'm not sure how they could have beefed up the dragon storyline more - maybe they were just trying to cram too much into the episode? Who knows...but it needed SOMETHING. Anyway, I'm not a television-writer. Overall, I loved the episode anyway.
Why didn't Sam hug him? On the other hand, why was Cas so over-the-top happy that Sam was back and healthy? Why is he so cold towards Dean but to Sam he's all cute and sweet? Is it because Dean is a cold bastard and doesn't think about Cas's problems a lot of the time? Or... well, does he LIKE Sam better? Which I would be ok with, if it didn't come out of left field. Since when? He's been calling him an abomination a lot of the time, so why?
You sent my mind a'whirring with these questions, and I might do a post about it...but in the meantime, I'll see if I can figure out the answers here:
I think Cas honestly thought Dean had "killed" Sam and was happy to see him up and around. When Robo-Sam came back the first time, Cas knew about it, but the war in heaven was fierce and he didn't have any answers to Sam's questions, so he may have been just as happy, but not able to come right away and express that instant-happyness.
I don't think Cas calling Sam an abomination was in any way an indication that Cas didn't like Sam just as much as Dean...especially by the end of S5, when Dean had been a complete ass and Sam hadn't. I think Cas is just horribly blunt and honest. He called Sam an abomination because Sam IS an abomination. It's like me calling my sister a diabetic. To Cas, Sam being an abomination is just a statement of fact, not a comment on their friendship or Sam's worth.
I think Cas is cold towards Dean (especially in this season so far) because Dean is really mean to him and not-understanding. We see a bit of the friendly warm Cas, when Dean takes a MOMENT to be considerate - like at the end of Caged Heat where he tells Cas that their his friends and if he ever needs anything to let them know...you can see Cas melting a bit at that.
So, yeah, I think he likes both brothers the same, but Sam has been consistently more polite and nice with him (especially when souled) and Cas just responds to the way he's treated.
But that isn't to say that Cas isn't weird ;)
And yes, I agree, maybe Cas WAS the perfect person to lay out the facts for Sam. Especially since he wasn't around for all of it...like, does Cas know about Sam letting Dean get turned into a vampire? Or does Sam just know the basics and the events that Cas was there for?
