A commenter below you (kaybee751) posited the theory that perhaps Sam has a subconscious aversion to angels after being in hell for 1.5 years with two of them - but, who knows, it could just be because Castiel and Sam have never been all that close and Sam's not quite sure what their relationship is. Up until now, Cas has mostly hung out with Dean, except for the brief period in S5 when Dean was being an ass.
Jared has really impressed me...basically starting in S4, but I feel like they've really given him opportunity to shine with this season.
