I started the politeness thing in high school. I had this one teacher who was just rude. I noticed that the students who were (quite rightly) rude right back to her, were immediately put on her "bad list" and subsequently marked down for it. So, I figured it'd be a game - the more rude she was to me, the more polite I would be to her, and then she'd have absolutely no grounds with which to be marking me down and she'd feel like a complete idiot when she did so - so ultimately, I would win. It worked wonders. In the end, she liked me so much that she'd ignore my mistakes on tests, and mark me as correct. I still hated her, but she'd never know it from my behaviour. The "game" just branched out from there.
LOL - I like your food analogy. If I could expand on it though...I think you're right about Dean, only, once you cut into the cake and see the layers, you are like "oh hey, layers!" but Sam's Kinder egg keeps sealing itself back up everytime and regenerating a new toy. So, sometimes you are like "oh hey, a little space man!" and then suddenly you are like "wait...a toy car?" and then sometimes you are like "oh man...it's a very small puzzle! Now I've got to put this little puzzle together to figure out what it all means!"
Not to say that Dean is simple of course. Just that he's much easier to know. At least for me.
Re: Sam's Hell - yes, that could be what Brady meant! Certainly, Sam's life has not been easy at all. It's interesting about S6, because it seems to be the first opportunity for Sam to actually CHOOSE to hunt, with no dark destiny hanging over his head anymore...yet, there is something wrong with him...
