Day 30 - Saddest character death
Non-Supernatural:
Orson - Record of Lodoss War
Perhaps it's not surprising that my favorite male character would also be my saddest character death. I was so in love with Orson, I went through the five stages of grief when he died. His dearth scene was also one of the most beautiful heart-wrenching scenes I've ever seen in anime (and that's saying something.)

After working very hard to find a cure for his Berserker-ism - Orson was finally moving forward out of the trauma that had affected him since childhood. He was developing emotions again...then, their party was ambushed, and his traveling partner Shiris was surrounded. The problem with emotions is that not all of them are good - in a sudden fear for Shiris' life, and hatred of feeling helpless to prevent her death without his berserker-powers...Orson choose to regress into Berserker mode - amazing attack skills in return for a temporary inability to feel pain or defend yourself. Orson killed every single one of the enemies that threatened Shiris, but each one managed to run him through with their sword as well. Before the Berserker-mode faded, Orson stood in front of Shiris one last time...and Shiris, knowing Orson was about to die, spread her arms out and begged him to kill her too. He didn't.
Supernatural:
Sam's death in All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1 & 2.

What can I say...it was the first Winchester brother death, and therefore had the most impact. I had not expected the show to actually kill off one of only two main characters. Not only that, but it was SAMMY. And I really expected Dean to just fall on his own sword...and he basically did, after giving us an amazingly heart-wrenching look at just how devastated he was - yelling at Bobby...the soliloquy over Sam's corpse...and then seeing him pull up to the crossroads and knowing what was about to happen...man, if I weren't a Vulcan, I would have been sobbing.
Thus ends the 30 day Meme! Yay me! (Mind you, I shortened it to 27 days, but whatever).
Does anyone else notice a STRIKING SIMILARITY in the two screen caps?!?! I didn't even realize it until I got them up in the same post.
