Exactly. And maybe one of the reasons he is male is because after 4 seasons, the writers realized that their fanbase HATES anything remotely resembling a love-interest.
That's a good case for when the Gender-Switch Method points out not only the shows non-sexism, but also points out the misogyny of the fanbase.
I really don't think it's Supernatural that has a problem with misogyny - I think it's all the girls watching it that do.
Now mind you, I think the problem actually lies in society's unwillingness to accept friendship between a male and a female without there being a perceived sexual/romantic-love undercurrent to the relationship. Hell, half the fandom won't even recognize friendship between two MALES without claiming there is a sexual undercurrent to it...but, I already talked about that in another post of mine, so I won't go into it again.
