MOAR CHARTS: This time DEAN!
Yesterday, I explored Sam's clothes purchasing habits, today, let's look at Dean's...
Now, the problem with Dean (one of the many, poor boy) is that he has VERY FEW CLOTHES. So, these pie charts are a bit ridiculous, because I am working with very small numbers.
But let's do it anyway!
Again, this is only an analysis of the "shirt" category of If Clothes Could Talk and does not include henleys. Also, for the purposes of these charts, denim is counted as blue/black. (I combined blue/black and green/beige, because those are colours that I have difficulty telling apart.)
We'll start off with our basis of S1:

As you can see, Dean keeps things pretty evenly distributed.
Let's see how traveling with Sam changes that:

Now what happens when Dean only has a year to live?

Apparently Dean's association between Plaid and Angst runs deep...
But don't worry Dean, you are saved! How will you celebrate?

That's more like it. As a fellow green-eyed person, I understand Dean's love for wearing green...

And a very fine shirt it was. I think you've made the point about liking green now, Dean.
What happens when Dean's been out of the game for a year?

Once again, evenly distributed, if you ignore the lack of new plaid.
So, what have we learned? If you want to buy Dean a shirt for Christmas, he'll obviously appreciate a green/beige shirt, but not necessarily need it.
Now, because Dean's wardrobe is so small, I also did a chart of the whole thing from S1-S6:

And there you have it.
I hope you enjoyed this journey into Dean's duffle...

I'm sure he would appreciate a new red plaid shirt. (I'm sure we ALL would appreciate it, because, damn, he does look good in it.) :)

hellsin in it. And the angst just makes it even better.no subject
Also this? the problem with Dean (one of the many, poor boy)... is pretty much why I just want to hug and pet him to infinity.
And add me to the list of people who are entertained and reduced to giggling by the Season 5 chart.
Maybe Dean hates clothes shopping and leaves it up to Sam and only gets a new shirt when Sam stumbles across one that's a bit on the small side for him but looks like it could suit Dean. I especially love the correlation between plaid and angst. It's so true. I miss plaid on him. He looks all lost-little-boy and cuddly in plaid. But, yes, he does like his green.

I also want to hug him and pet him to infinity...unfortunately, I think Jensen would feel uncomfortable about it. :P
I think Dean does the clothes shopping - shops for Sam first, then gets tied of shopping, and just grabs a couple of things at the last minute for himself.

Hahahahaha. True. I can see him having no tolerance for clothes shopping and he's burned out by using himself as a unit of measurement for Sam's stuff and just grabs the bare necessities for himself. Like one shirt in an ENTIRE SEASON. Or he shops for Sam and then gives up and when Sam notices Dean's shirts are mauled beyond recognition, picks up a couple for his brother. Like for Christmas or birthdays along with underroos and wifebeaters.

Haha, yup, that's exactly how I see it happening. Dean spends all this time in the big/tall section making sure the shirts will fit Sam, and meanwhile there are holes in his elbows - and Sam is like "Thanks for all the new clothes! Where are yours?" and Dean is like "damn it! I forgot!" :P

Actually I don't see Dean telling Sam he forgot as much as just shrugging and not-caring. And walking around with the holes in his elbows like some kind of abandoned orphan.

Haha, it's funny because it's sad and probably true.

It always cracks me up that whenever Sam takes off, he takes so little luggage. Maybe that's why he ends up buying new shirts. Their duffles must be like the Weasley's Anglia with all that space inside that you can't see.

Sam taking off with his laptop and tiny little backpack always makes me laugh. I figure they must have storage units all over the country JUST for Sam's clothes. :P

I'd LOVE an ironing scene! I agree about it probably being Dean who irons. In university, I used to "iron" by planning ahead and laying the shirt flat on the floor and stacking all my text-books and librar books on top of it and then leaving it for a day or two. You can't really do that while you're driving around the country though - so they MUST iron...or go to a dry-cleaners just before and ask for an emergency press.

Dean is VERY adorable.

You have to have so much patience to go through the episodes and catalog everything so well!!!

I enjoy doing this - I'm not sure what that says about me, but I've always really enjoyed doing things that require a lot of patience.

ONE new shirt for Dean in the whole of season 5?!? Oh Dean...

Glad you enjoyed ;)

Don't stop. I love to be able to proudly say I belong to the *best* fanhood ever!

So, demons can apparate complete with clothes on, angels too - maybe the Winchester have found a way to have suits and shirts apparate?? ok, just being silly here...

Those guess the screencap things are pretty much impossible for me. I can sometimes get them if it's Sam, or especially if it's Sam and I can recognize the shirt/jacket combo, but I can NEVER guess the Dean ones - to me, Dean always looks the same (sexy!)
Haha, maybe after I get my "clothes by episode" entries finished, I'll be able to tell you if there are any episodes in which Dean does not wear a green shirt - but right now, it really doesn't feel like it.

Digressing a little, I wonder if he has any other color blazer other than black, though. Just because :)

Have I mentioned how awesome you are for doing all these charts and cataloging and listing and everything? Because, yeah, you're totally awesome.

I think Dean got a new Jacket or something too that season...but yeah...just the one shirt...poor boy. :P

Thanks for being a well of useless but hopelessly entertaining information!

You're welcome. I shall continue to provide useless, but entertaining, information in the future. ;)
