Yeah, we see him at the very beginning of Lucifer Rising too...and he's definitely Bobby then. So, something happened to him while Sam was hunting down Lilith and Dean was stuck in the "green room" - or something happened to him just after Lucifer rose.

Poor Bobby. I guess the power of pure awesome can't protect you ALL the time.
