Which makes you wonder....for being a powerful archangel....what the hell did Lucifer do to Michael???
I'm not sure that he did anything special. Lucifer was, after all, the one who wanted to not have the epic end fight and Michael insisted. Michael was absolutely convinced he was "right" and doing his father's will. It's quite possible that he cracked once he realized that, no, Dad wasn't going to rescue him and he was stuck in The Cage for all eternity, just like the brother that he thought "deserved" to be in The Cage. I don't think Lucifer was sweetness and light, or tried to help Michael particularly. I also suspect that once Sam's soul was removed Lucifer did take out his frustration on the brother who 1) knew that Lucifer was corrupted by being given the Mark and 2) didn't do anything to intervene with God and 3) was more than willing to destroy him, or at least lock him back up in solitary. But I do think that being abandoned by God to a fate worse than death probably was a huge contributing factor to Michael's breakdown.
