Oh cool, yes, that correction counts as "an important character point", so thanks for correcting me! It's good to know that the boys haven't completely lost their empathy and understanding. I guess my memory was clouded by later in the episode when they were trying to get Jody to understand that Alex might be a willing bloodthirsty murderer.
I'm not saying he should have addressed it there, but obviously this should have been one of the things they should have been talking about at the end. Another interesting thing I noticed was the little shake of Dean's head after his kill as if he was waking up from it and then remembering Sam and rushing over to him. To me, that little shake is indication of his recovering from the kill-mode. I do not think that is the reason he forgot about Jody for the moment.
I'm sure you've read my other comment on this, but I both agree and disagree with you.
1)I agree that perhaps Dean may have already been out of kill-mode and his current distraction was Sam, and taking care of him, and it was self-sacrificing Sam who wanted Dean to prioritize Jody over him and ignored Dean's comment in favour of reminding him that he should be trying to find Jody.
2)I'm not sure how to explain the part I disagree with. I completely failed in the other comment too. But, when Dean says "I know you wouldn't do the same for me", he says it in a tone of voice that, to me, begs NOT to be paid attention to. It's snarky and a little cutting, and Dean has been snarky and cutting to Sam a lot since their fight. I'm not saying that it's not an important thing for Sam to address, what I'm saying is that I don't think Sam REALIZES that Dean is SERIOUS.
Also, at the end of the episode, I think Sam WAS trying to talk about it. The previous times that Dean has killed in a disturbing fashion, it was because he had to talk about his feelings... as much as I'm sure Sam is wondering if it's the MoC, he's probably also wondering if Dean needs to talk about his feelings - when he brings up the sadism in their conversation, I think he's trying to give Dean an opening to say anything from "The MoC is messing me up" to "You hurt my feelings and I'm mad at you" - because Sam honestly doesn't know which one it is. YES, Sam knows that they're still not okay, he's still mad at Dean and he knows Dean is mad at him for being mad... but that doesn't necessarily mean that Sam knows whether IF or HOW that's affecting Dean or whether it's the MoC or something else entirely.
You have to remember that as outside observers, we know a lot more about Sam and Dean than Sam and Dean know about each other.
