Because it calls back to like the first flashback ever, back in s1. You know, the one where teeny!Sam puppy-eyed Dean out of his cereal or something...
Aww, it does. They're adorable.
Very good synopsis of Cas/Sam's mistakes versus Dean's. And you're right, Dean's been making the same mistake since S2, and he only briefly DIDN'T make once, but other than that it's been the same old story, and Sam's had enough.
and we didn't see any angels for...basically all of s7, so who the hell knows what was going on up in Heaven at that point, and then at least one faction has carved out enough of a stable niche for Naomi to do her thing...
I assume it was just the start of the faction fighting, until it got to a point where Naomi had enough control to start brainwashing angels and thus secure whatever power she had, even if it was temporary. The angel tablet, I'm sure, would have gone a long way for her in terms of further controlling the angels.
Come to think of it, I mean, with the exception of a few people they actually personally know, they've sort of stopped thinking about hosts/vessels in general. I mean, they mention Josie Sands and compare her to Abbadon, and they talk a little bit about how the s9 angels are finding their vessels, but...yeah.
Yeah, this kind of annoys me. As much as I talk about them leveling up and having bigger concerns than let's say - Tommy Collins... it kind of really bugs me that killing humans alongside demons/angels just doesn't seem to matter to them anymore. It sort of takes the "saving people" out of the "saving people, hunting things" line... and yes, I guess they just see it as collateral damage in saving the non-possessed people of the earth, but it still irks me.
(I know it's such a stupid thing to get annoyed at but nephilim is a plural! :( The singular should be nephil, like with seraph/seraphim, and cherub/cherubim. And it's dumb, but it bugs me and it has since I first watched the episode.)
Good to know! I never took Latin (I'm assuming it's Latin) and I'm horrible at Latin-derived romance languages. So, yeah, I had no idea that they were saying it wrong... I guess because people recognize the plural more than the singular? Or maybe it just sounds a bit more badass? I don't know...
Seriously, the worst applying redundant security measures will do is make you feel stupid! Better than her somehow wandering off!
No kidding! Ugh, and you're right about her not surviving the frankenstein-surgery after they cure her. I didn't even think of that. Seriously, worst. plan. ever.
I don't necessarily think that the nephilim defending herself was supposed to make her unsympathetic to us, so much as it was supposed to keep Cas from balking? Because I'm not sure he could have gone through with it if she hadn't gotten aggressive.
I agree. I kind of worded it poorly in my post - but yeah, I don't think that she was meant to be unsympathetic. I think that like Cas, keeping her aggressive did help the audience to keep from balking too - just enough to keep possibly believing that Metatron might have good intent. If that makes any sense - I'm probably still not wording it well.
But yes, Cas wouldn't have been able to follow through if she hadn't been aggressive... and you're also right that her becoming aggressive, and the line about showing them an abomination, DOES fit in VERY well with the theme of monsters becoming monsters because people treat them like monsters.
