Well, yeah, Castiel apologizes several times for doing this to Sam - so I think everyone is aware that this is his fault. Mind you, I also believe that this would have happened eventually anyway - Castiel just sped up the process. Dean could have had years with Sam before Sam's wall was crumbled to dust, but instead he just got one.
I think there's more to Sam's backstory than meets the eye, personally. I'm not calling character assassination until I get the full story - that being said, there's a great meta out there that actually explains how Sam's decision might still be in character. Just for the record, I never liked this Meg. I liked Nicki Aycox. I also want to know why they keep referring to the demon as 'Meg'. Meg Masters was the young lady's real name.
I know, that drives me nuts too. That being said - using a false name protects the demon. We know Crowley's name is actually Fergus, etc. So, whose to say that Ruby was actually even Ruby.
This episode needed a follow up scene or two of Dean just watching Sammy sleep like a baby. :)
