I think the problem with Lisa and Ben is that once they were there - there was no way to get rid of them. Like... you couldn't actually have a family for Dean, and they'd never stop BEING a family unless they were forcibly removed from his life.
I mean, YES, you could bring them back and have them then CHOOSE to leave forever, and the effect would be the same (with less plot holes), but at the same time, I sort of feel like it's just better to live with the plot holes we have and pretend they aren't there.
Because I fully believe that Sara/the writers believed that for some reason the Braeden's being oblivious meant that they were safe - even though that makes absolutely no sense if you think about it longer than 10 seconds. So, it's an accident of writing rather than an actual... fact in the show, if that makes any sense.
I mean, I'm not saying NEVER, but to me Lisa and Ben are like Lucifer, their time has ended, their storyline, for better or for worse, concluded, and I'd prefer it to stay that way. Of course, good writing is good writing, and if someone figured out how to do it WELL, then SURE... but it'd have to be GOLD in order for me to get on board at this point.
Because they're either coming back to be permanent story again, or they're coming back to yell at Dean and then break is heart again, and I don't see any middle ground at all on that.
Though, I'm all for fics that have them remembering - those are fun. I just don't want to see it in show. (Granted, I did see one where they remembered, decided to stay away, and Dean NEVER KNEW they remembered - I'd be fine if show wanted to do that - but I don't see that as something that anyone else would be satisfied with, as they'd constantly be waiting for Dean to find out, like it was an unsolved subplot rather than a concluded one.)
