True, and it is a terrible thing. I completely agree; any disagreement isn't over the terribleness, but the necessity of mentioning it in this context.

The problem with the 'what about the men' argument is that it can be quite derailing, despite the fact that it is a conversation very much worth having.

The biggest offense of this episode (which was in many other ways not too shabby) revolved around the depiction of violence against women, so it's fair enough to speak solely about rape culture and violence against women.

I read a great example earlier that went a little something like this (tweaked to fit our current conversation):

If we were talking about the perpetuation of rape culture as it relates to prisons (e.g. the way that prison rape is ACTIVELY condoned), we wouldn't feel it was necessary to first acknowledge (say) the effect rape culture has on women on college campuses. It's an issue that predominantly affects men, and more specifically than that, men in prison, so not speaking about women (not in prison...or even in prison) in that context wouldn't be condoning it.

So, I think we can discuss this without having to touch back on sexual violence against men.

But if you want to do a rewatch of that prison episode* I definitely will be there, and I definitely won't talk about misogyny. :)

* or any problematic episode that's more male-centered
