But for that to work there has to be some sense that the larger work itself doesn't condone their views and actions. And that...isn't the case here. The characters are never called on it, there's no consequence, no sense that THIS is what taints them- in fact, the opposite, since the taint is implied to be working with the bad guys in any capacity.

Some shows can handle misogynistic/racist/whatever characters without being misogynistic (etc) itself. It requires a subtle touch- it's rarely as obvious as SEXISM IS BAD, OKAY?

Supernatural has ever been one of them.
