Actually, I do know that, because the news came in around 3pm my time...which is 2 hours BEFORE TVD airs on the East Coast. So, it wasn't that they already saw the numbers, it was 2 hours before they would have any indication of the numbers.
Now the rumour is that it was Smallville's fault for the delay (a shooting plot they - suddenly - found in poor taste), I'm not sure if that's true or not, but even if it is...why delay Supernatural too and give us stupid excuses?
I mean, regardless of this decision, the network still advertises their T&A shows (TVD, Gossip Girl) way more than it advertises Supernatural...devil's advocate: could be a budgeting issue, with Supernatural using it's advertising budget on higher production values, but again, bitter-me really doesn't think that is the case. If they can't sell sex, they don't know how to sell something.
