I think the challenge with any crossover is how to get Sam and Dean to WILLING work with someone, and then on top of that I have Harry Potter, who doesn't defer authority either (and I really believe, only ever has deferred authority to Dumbledore in the past)...so yeah, I'm glad you like what I've done.
As for the pre-series nod - most of my other fanfic is pre-series. It's really my favorite area to play in, so I'm not surprised it wormed it's way into a S4 fic. :-P
