Well, the problem with focusing more on the brother in Slumdog is that it would have lost it's "triumphant" feeling...or "feel-good-happy-ending"...if they spent more time on the brother, you would have developed sympathy for him, you would have understood his motivations sooner, and then been more devastated/bummed out by his non-happy ending.
I actually thought they spent the right amount of time on him. Enough for some of us to be like "why is that guy such a douche of a brother..." then to slowly understand, and then when he made his exit, we were able to move on confident that he chose his ending well.
But yeah, he's more interesting than the do-good smitten main-character.
Yeah, although I enjoy a good Die Hard-type movie every once in a while...I don't do James Bond movies.
It's not a new development for me...when I was a kid watching disney musical cartoons, I always loved the "evil" songs the best (though, that might be because they were written in minor keys...and everything sounds more interesting when it's in a minor key).
