So, here's something that happened last week...

It didn't happen to me though. I, unfortunately, was stuck at an airport for 4 hours and then stuck on a plane for 5 more hours.... but while I was doing that, my friend Kathleen was at a GISHWHES event where they were tasked with making a safety pin chain.

And then Misha told the crowd that he wanted everyone to polka, and then asked if anyone actually knew how to polka. Kathleen, without turning around to actually look at Misha, raised her hand enthusiastically. Kathleen grew up with the polka, loves polka, and did I mention that she loves to polka? (Kathleen: "The polka is the dance of my people :) Thanks to Mom and Dad, I've been doing this dance since before I could walk - so my whole life I've been training for this!...Seriously, I've been doing the polka pretty much since I learned how to walk. If you are wearing Lederhosen, sir, you are guaranteed at LEAST one dance with me!")

The next thing she knew, Misha was tapping her on the shoulder and asking her if she would like to polka with him.

The funniest thing (IMO) is that in recounting it, Kathleen admits that she was so excited about polka that she forgot to be excited about dancing with Misha... or as she put it in an email:

"...at the time I was all like "AW YEAH POLKA" and part way through it became "Misha? Polka? Polka? Misha?" kinda like The Tick and pockets.  Well, exactly like that, as I just wandered around aimlessly after, unable to form sentences. "

(And for those of you who don't know the Tick reference, look it up! You are missing out on one of the greatest moments in comic history.)

She added:  "So glad he was wearing the aviators so I didn't go all "deer in the headlights" when faced with those eyes."

For those who are curious, Kathleen reports that Misha polkas "very well" and she was mostly distracted by how soft his hands were.

So, a little bit ago, I got a lovely message from [livejournal.com profile] pilpa asking if she could translate the Unfortunate Brother series into Chinese. I, of course, said yes! I happen to know that the majority of people in the world speak Chinese and I thought it'd be really cool if they could read my fic too. :)

Well, she's done it! (You need to sign up to the forums to see it, but I'm sure all you Chinese-speakers can handle that.)

I've had a look and even though I only know how to read the words, "I", "you", "heart", and "everybody", I think she did a really great job!

I'm very flattered that someone liked my fic so much they wanted to translate it and bring it to a wider audience.

So, yeah, I'm super thrilled. I really love that series and I'm very excited that people who perhaps couldn't read it before can now do so. :)

So, I know there are only a few of you on here who are also in the Sherlock fandom, but I wanted to show off my Pocket!John that came in the mail today...he is a cell-charm made by [livejournal.com profile] dauntdraws , that I bought from her etsy store.

Isn't he adorable?! And he's smaller than me, so he gives me a great sense of importance. ;)

I love him.

For those who are interested, there are also Sherlock charms, AND Sam, Dean, and Castiel charms. They are all super cute, and very inexpensive. Maybe I'll buy them all and rotate who gets to ride around in my pocket.

On a completely unrelated note: I'm flying back to Ontario tonight on an overnight flight. So, forgive me if I suddenly drop off the radar for the next 24 hours or so.

This is a lot of places by now...but I couldn't help but post it here anyway:

The video says it's 9 digits of pi, but I actually counted 12.

(If you don't get the reference in the title, I suggest you read my VanCon 2010 reports).

First: One of my favourite can of worms - someone did a count of death in Supernatural based on gender! It's VERY INTERESTING. Some of you may remember that I wanted to do something similar a couple of months ago, except with sexual-assault (either real or metaphoric), but decided that I did not want to bring that kind of wrath down on myself. Likewise, I have made a point not to read the comments that these guys received on this lovely death-count. I find numbers interesting, but I know that there is more to interpretation and context than numbers alone.

Second: Mark Sheppard is awesome.

I really hope he gets added to VanCon at the last minute or something, because I would love to meet him....plus he's been on Doctor Who! It's odd, but since Supernatural is filmed where I live, it doesn't feel as...impossible...to meet the actors. To me though, Doctor Who is something that just doesn't intersect with real-life. So, yeah, not that I can ever think of questions at Cons, but if Mark Sheppard did come, I would totally ask him SOMETHING about Doctor Who.

Anywho...what I really want to talk about is how awesome this little speech he gave at RisingCon is. Link here, and I'll also embed it below. I know that a section of it sort of encourages the petitions and everything that annoy the crap out of me, but in general, it's just a very heartfelt speech about how the conventions are just as loved and important to the actors as they are to the fans...

(The great thing about having a clothes sharing kink is that it really doesn't matter to me whether the people sharing clothes are friends, lovers, or enemies...I just love seeing people wearing other people's clothes. I have no idea why.)

DONE!

I AM FINISHED WRITING VILE VIOLENT VACATIONS! \o/

Also, I totally took the day off work to write fanfiction...does this make me a bad decision maker? Should I get my priorities straight? Does it count that I loathe my job? Does this secretly say something about what kind of job I should have?.... What does it mean that the answer to all those questions is probably "yes"?

But, it is finished at 30 chapters, with chapter 30 being an extra 1000+ words. Much like Harry Potter (and perhaps Supernatural?), some of you will not be pleased with the ending - but, it's how I intended to end it the whole time, so I'm happy with it.

There will be timestamps, so don't fret that this is the be all end all of the 'verse. I have one timestamp that I'll probably write in a week or two, which will serve as a sort of epilogue to VVV...and then there's a possibility for more timestamps. So, there will be little things here and there to keep you entertained. As of right now though, I feel like this will be the last multichaptered epic that I'll write for a good long while.

So, now that's it all done, I have to dig up that banner someone made me back in August (must also remind myself who made it), so that I can do the master post...then I suppose I should do a master post for the whole 'verse.

So, if anyone wants to make me a banner for that...that'd be cool, but it's not a necessity.

But, at least it looks like you'll get a final chapter on Wednesday (which might actually go up Tuesday night, depending on my work schedule).

I'm excited. I'm going to go change all those question marks into 30s.

It's the Gates of Hell! They are in Turkmenistan, apparently.

Click here for more info on this fire that has been burning for 38 years in the Karakum desert.

There is a similar thing in Germany, and the US (Pennsylvania), but they are not as picturesque. The one in Germany has been burning since 1688 though! That's impressive. And the fire in Pennsylvania has it's own ghost-town, because everyone had to move.
